ARACI AND VALENTE COMMUNITY
Araci and Valente are two municipalities situated in the
state of Bahia - Araci has around 49,000 inhabitants,
and Valente around 20,000.
The craftsmen and women of these two communities working
together under the cooperative COOPERAFIS, produce
boxes, bags, amongst other products made using
traditional weaving techniques. The crafts are made from
sisal, caroa fiber and other native raw materials, and
using natural dyes (extracted from local vegetation).
Our abaetê (partner) Artesanato Solidário/ArteSol
encourages the creation of new products, contributing to
increase the revenue for the craftswomen.
