SALGUEIRO COMMUNITY
The
municipality of Salgueiro, which has around 55,000
inhabitants is situated in the meso-region of Araripe.
In this region, at Pitombeiras farm, a group of 15
craftspeople weave using a fiber extracted from the
trunk of the banana tree.
Pitombeiras farm is known for its large banana
plantation. The practical and decorative products
reflect the delicacy and the beauty of weavings from
natural fibers.
This community produces baskets, rugs, flowers amongst
other products weaved by hand.
